Potential Errors: Mac: Failure to Connect – VPN Icon Stuck Loading
- Click the Show Hidden Icons button
- Click the Global Protect app icon (looks like an icon of the globe)
- It will either say (Welcome to GlobalProtect or Disconnected)
Or
- Enter the IP address of the portal, 209.174.94.2 and then click Connect.
- It will then show Connecting
- Your default browser will then open, asking you to sign in to your IVCC account via SSO
Or
- Enter your Username and Password, and then click Sign In.
- You will be prompted for MFA verification (choose whatever method you have set up text, call, or Authenticator app.
- If prompted to stay signed in, select whichever you would like
- The web browser may load a couple of times. This is normal.
- You are now connected.
- Remember to click "Disconnect" when you are finished using the VPN.
- You will see a globe icon in the menu bar click the icon
- Next, you will be prompted to enter the Global Protect VPN portal address. Enter 209.174.94.2 for the portal address and click Connect.
- It will then show Connecting
- Your default browser will then open, asking you to sign in to your IVCC account via SSO
Or

Connecting to the Global Protect VPN, where mostly successful, may occasionally walk into errors, including failing to connect, being unable to identify the gateway, etc., and as a result, leaving user(s) unable to access valuable in-house resources necessary to complete various processes.
- In a situation where the VPN is stuck in a loop and fails to connect to the school, we can try a couple of things.

- First, we’d like to identify the global protect application in the bottom right of your taskbar.

- Open the application, and from the top right select the 3 bars stacked on each other, this will open a set of selections. Select ‘Refresh connection,’ and monitor the icon for a moment, it should open a webpage after the fact.
- If, after loading into the webpage, issues still persist, and the VPN hasn’t connected, the webpage itself has an option to try refreshing the VPN as well. I recommend selecting the option to refresh the VPN, from the webpage by

- When selecting the ‘Click Here’ Option, I recommend clicking on it 2-3 times, and giving the computer several more moments to refresh.
In most cases, I’ve found these 2 fixes to establish a connection after a brief amount of time.
- If issues persist beyond this, I would recommend rebooting the device and following these steps once more.
- In a situation where the VPN is stuck in a loop and fails to connect to the school, we can try a couple of things.

- Click the GlobalPretect icon, located in the top right region of the MacOS menu bar, then click the hamburger (three stacked horizontal lines) button and select Refresh Connection.

- A new GlobalProtect Refresh app panel appears Click the Refresh Connection button.

- The app should then ask you to log in again (in your default browser) with your IVCC SSO account and will have you reverify via MFA
- If, after loading into the webpage, issues still persist, and the VPN hasn’t connected, the webpage itself has an option to try refreshing the VPN as well. I recommend selecting the option to refresh the VPN, from the webpage by

Can't Connect to VPN Client (GlobalProtect) / Stale Error - When Pressing ENTER Key at Login
For both Windows and Mac, Click the Connect button on the screen instead of pressing the ENTER key after entering the portal address.
In some cases, users may need to Force Quit the GlobalProtect app or even Restart their computer to unfreeze the unresponsive GlobalProtect app and try connecting/refreshing afterward.
